The problem
Marketing stops the month you get busy.
It starts well. A month of posts, a campaign, the website finally updated. Then a big job lands, someone leaves, and it all goes quiet for six weeks.
The gap is the expensive part. Rankings slip while competitors keep publishing. Audiences go cold. Ad accounts lose the conversion history they were optimising against, so switching them back on means paying to relearn what you already knew.
Keeping it running takes strategy, creative, production and reporting happening at once, every month, whether or not this month is busy. That is a team's worth of work, which is why it usually ends up split across four suppliers who never speak, or landed on one person inside the business on top of their real job.
What a month looks like
This is what keeping it running produces.

The difference
What a retainer actually changes.
Four things that are different from the month you start.
- Quiet months0The month is booked before it starts.Scope, deliverables and the publishing schedule are agreed up front, so the work is already moving when the month begins. The same set lands in month nine as in month one.
- Suppliers to manage1One team, not four suppliers.Strategy, creative, production and media buying sit in the same room. The channels stop contradicting each other, and nobody is waiting on somebody else to send a file.
- Shot and cut in our studioWe make the work, not just the plan.Photography and video are shot in our own studio, so there is always something to publish. A retainer that runs out of content is just a strategy document with an invoice attached.
- Written reports a year12You can see what it did.A written report every month in plain English on what worked, what to test next and where the budget should move, plus a quarterly strategy review with a real human in the room.
What a retainer covers
On retainer
Brands we run month after month.
Began as social media management. Now four disciplines, every month.

From the Usher Group
“We credit Lucky Boy with the significant growth we have seen in our brand equity, awareness and engagement.”

We absolutely love our partnership with Karleigh, Jake & the Lucky Boy Agency Team. What began as an initial social media management arrangement has grown and flourished into something far greater. The LB team developed a comprehensive marketing strategy for the business and have since helped us create and drive the "We Are Usher" campaign both internally and externally.
We credit Lucky Boy with the significant growth we have seen in our brand equity, awareness and engagement over the last 6 to 12 months and they work hard to make our lives easier in every aspect of the services they provide for us.
The Usher Group actively engages Lucky Boy with all of:
- Social media management across all platforms
- Content creation
- Email marketing, both internal and external
- Video production and photography projects
If you are considering partnering with them, we would recommend checking out the incredible work they have done and continue to do for us by watching the We Are Usher micro-documentary they have created and visiting any of our social media channels.
What it costs
One flat fee, every month.
Retainers are scoped to what you actually need, so the fee is set against the work and stays there. This is the floor, not a package.
Marketing retainer
From $2,000AUD + GST, per month
Scope is agreed before the month starts and the fee is fixed against it. It changes when the scope changes, and not otherwise.

We couldn't have asked for a better team at Lucky Boy to capture the St Ferrer Impact Build and tell the story. They understood the brief from the start, and their execution and dedication were nothing short of spectacular.
I don't know whether to be mad that you made me cry for three minutes or to be impressed that you've created something even more special than we imagined. It's absolutely beautiful, a truly special legacy.
I feel like the luckiest girl ever to have found Lucky Boy Agency at a pivotal point in my business. The team have rebranded our company with a fresh, modern, authentically 'us' look.
We recently worked with Karleigh and the team at Lucky Boy Agency on a shoot for Sommerstone Property Group, producing around 40 videos. We couldn't be happier with how it all came together.
Karleigh and Jake have been incredible bringing our brand to life. When we were searching for an agency, Karleigh took the time to understand our business, our goals, and put together a bespoke plan.
An absolute delight to work with Karleigh and the team at Lucky Boy Agency. Our TVC delivered on time and to budget. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.
We couldn't be happier with our experience working with Lucky Boy Agency. From start to finish, the team absolutely nailed it. The branding and website they created for us have been a total game-changer.
We recently used Lucky Boy for some videography and had an amazing experience from start to finish.
Karleigh and Jake are an amazing duo. I'm so happy we found each other. We have been working together for the past couple of years and they have helped the business grow a lot.
If I could give 10 stars I would. The Lucky Boy team are incredible and very professional. They took my website to a whole new level and created a hero video that is a true representation of my brand and is something I will cherish forever.
I've used Lucky Boy for a number of projects. They've always been quick to respond, they're easy going, and they exceed expectations. Few agencies tick all three boxes. I highly recommend them for video, social media, or content work.
They did a fantastic job helping us produce a short promo video for use on our website. The whole process was seamless and stress free for us.
Good to know
The questions everyone asks.
What does a retainer cost?
Scope drives it. A retainer is built around a fixed set of monthly deliverables, and you get a flat monthly fee against them rather than a percentage of your ad spend. We scope it on the call and put it in writing before anything starts, so there is no moving number.
Do we have to take all of it?
No. Most retainers start with two or three services and grow from there. The Usher Group began as a social media management arrangement and now covers social, design, photography, video and podcast production.
Who actually does the work?
Our own team. Strategy, creative, production, media buying and web all sit together in the studio, which is the reason the work stays consistent across channels instead of reading like four suppliers who have never met. We are a marketing agency with a real production arm, not a production company that also posts.
Are we locked into a long contract?
Any minimum term is agreed on the call and written into the scope before anything starts, never introduced afterwards. If a term does not suit you, say so on the call and we will tell you honestly whether the scope still works without it.
Do you only work with Melbourne businesses?
No. The studio is in Melbourne and we shoot Australia-wide. A good share of our ongoing clients are interstate, including work on the Gold Coast, in Queensland and in South Australia.
What reporting do we get?
A monthly written report in plain English covering what worked, what we want to test next and where budget should move, plus a quarterly strategy review. Not a raw dashboard export with no interpretation attached.
