Pets of the Homeless micro-documentary

A short film for Pets of the Homeless Australia, documenting founder Yvonne Hong's mission to keep vulnerable people and their pets together.

Pets of the Homeless Australia is a charity dedicated to providing food, veterinary care, and essential support to pet owners doing it tough. Founded in 2015 by Yvonne Hong, the organisation grew out of a gap in the system: there were simply no services helping people experiencing homelessness with their pets.

Yvonne started with her own money, handing out pet supplies on the streets and documenting it on social media. That act quickly turned into a community-driven charity backed by donations and partnerships with homelessness organisations.

The film

The micro-documentary we produced tells the real stories of the people Pets of the Homeless Australia supports. It follows the charity's growth from one person on the street to a registered organisation with a national reach, and it makes the case for its mission in the clearest possible terms: keep people and their pets together.

Pets of the Homeless Australia's vision is a community where no one is separated from their pet due to homelessness or disadvantage. The work is guided by helping without judgement, dignity for everyone, strength through collaboration, and a quiet commitment to doing better as they go.
