Why South Melbourne
A full-service team in one room, fifteen minutes north.
Our studio is on Rokeby Street, Collingwood, fifteen minutes north of South Melbourne. Strategy, brand, design, photography, video, social, paid media, and PR all sit together. Most agencies stitch these disciplines together across vendors and time zones; we run them as one team in one room.
For South Melbourne design-led, hospitality, and property brands that means the strategist, the senior creative, the photographer, and the paid lead are all on the same Slack channel, working off the same brief, all able to be in your office by 9am if you need them in person. Local proximity, integrated team, real accountability.
How we start
From first call to first project, in three steps.
No long forms, no qualifying calls with someone who is not going to do the work. You speak directly with the team who will run your project.
01
A 30-minute scoping call.
You tell us what you are trying to move (a launch, a brand refresh, a revenue target). We tell you whether we are the right agency for it. If we are not, we tell you who is.
02
A fixed-fee proposal.
Inside a week you get a written scope with deliverables, timeline, and a fixed price. Nothing hourly, nothing surprise. If you want to swap something out, we re-scope before anyone signs anything.
03
Kickoff and ship.
Project work usually starts inside two weeks. Retainers start at the top of the following month. Your project lead is in the studio on Rokeby Street and you can call them directly.

A few words from the people we work with.
What began as an initial social media management arrangement has grown and flourished into something far greater.
I don't know whether to be mad that you made me cry for three minutes or to be impressed that you've created something even more special than we imagined. It's absolutely beautiful, a truly special legacy.

I've used Lucky Boy for a number of projects. They've always been quick to respond, they're easy going, and they exceed expectations. Few agencies tick all three boxes. I highly recommend them for video, social media, or content work.
They did a fantastic job helping us produce a short promo video for use on our website. The whole process was seamless and stress free for us.
Good to know
A marketing agency in South Melbourne, the questions buyers actually ask.
Is your marketing agency actually in South Melbourne?
Honest answer: no. Our studio is on Rokeby Street in Collingwood, fifteen minutes north of the South Melbourne Market. Strategy, brand, design, photo, video, social, paid media, and PR all sit in the same room there. We work with South Melbourne design-led brands, premium hospitality, property businesses, and lifestyle clients because the work is interesting, the conversations are face to face, and the door is open if you want to drop in.
Do you work with South Melbourne design-led and hospitality brands?
A meaningful share of our retainer work sits in South Melbourne's wheelhouse: design-led product brands needing premium creative, the hospitality scene around the Market and Clarendon Street, the property businesses around Albert Road, and the creative-services firms that have outgrown a single-channel agency. The reason these brands need full-service rather than one channel at a time is that the audience is design-literate, and the brand has to read consistent across every surface from packaging to a Reels cut.
What does a marketing agency actually do?
A full-service marketing agency owns four things: strategy (who, what, where, when, how much), creative production (brand, content, video, photo, copy, design), channel execution (paid media, organic social, EDM, SEO), and reporting (what worked, what to test next, where to reallocate). Smaller agencies cover one or two channels. Full-service agencies handle the whole system end to end, usually with senior account leadership and a creative team under one roof.
How much does a marketing agency cost in Melbourne?
Marketing agency retainers in Melbourne in 2026 range from about $1,500 a month for a freelance content manager up to $50,000+ a month for a senior full-service agency. Most growth-stage businesses spend between $7,500 and $20,000 a month on agency fees, plus separate media spend that typically runs one to three times the agency fee depending on the channel mix. Our content retainers start at $5,000 a month and full-service retainers start at $9,000 a month.
How long should a marketing agency engagement run?
Minimum twelve months to see real compounding signal. Paid media shows results in two to four weeks. Organic social takes three to six months. SEO takes six to twelve months. Brand work pays back over years. Agency relationships under twelve months rarely show what the agency is capable of.
Should we hire an agency or build an in-house team?
Hire an agency if your monthly marketing spend is under $30,000 and you need senior strategy alongside execution. Build in-house if your monthly spend is over $50,000 and you can hire a senior head plus a small team. The middle ground ($30,000 to $50,000) is usually a hybrid: an in-house marketing lead working with an agency on creative production and paid media.
What is the difference between a marketing agency and a creative agency?
A creative agency makes the work: brand, film, photo, website, campaign. A marketing agency runs the strategy and the channels: who, what, where, when, how much. Most agencies do both to some degree, but the centre of gravity is different. Lucky Boy runs both as one studio, which is the integration point that makes the creative perform and the marketing compound.
Do you charge a percentage of media spend?
No, never. Most reputable Melbourne agencies use flat monthly fees instead of percentage of spend, because percentage models create a perverse incentive to push media higher than the strategy supports. If an agency quotes 10 to 20 per cent of media as the fee, ask what they would charge as a flat alternative. The flat number is almost always cleaner over a twelve-month engagement.
Can we pause or stop a retainer?
Yes. We allow month-end pauses with 30 days notice, no auto-renewal, no lock-in. The exception is large bracket-four retainers that include dedicated team allocation, which carry a six month minimum.
