Collingwood, Melbourne

A video production agency in Collingwood, films built to be watched.

Brand films, commercials, founder stories, and social content for Australian businesses. Concept to delivery in one studio, with a producer keeping the day on schedule and a director making sure the work lands.

Film and video

End-to-end video. Concept to final cut, in one studio.

Strategy-led. Cinematically made.

Lucky Boy is a video production studio on Rokeby Street, Collingwood. A decade of camera work across brand films, commercials, founder stories, recruitment video, product demos, and social cuts. Cinema cameras, prime lenses, broadcast-clean audio, an in-house edit suite, and a producer running the day.

Most of our brand-film clients pair the film with a wider content scope, social cut-downs, paid amplification, photography from the shoot day. The brands that get the most out of video production are the ones that plan distribution at the same time as production.

What's included

Six phases every video production runs through.

Pre-production is where the budget gets spent properly. The shoot day is where the magic gets captured. Post is where the film gets made.

  1. 01
Discovery and conceptThe goal, the audience, the message, and the format. Brand film, commercial, founder story, social cut, recruitment, product demo, and what success looks like.
  2. 02
Pre-productionScript, storyboards, shot lists, locations, talent, scheduling, kit. The week that determines whether the shoot ships clean or whether the edit becomes a fix-it pass.
  3. 03
ProductionCinematic visuals, broadcast-clean audio, talented direction. Cinema cameras, prime lenses, real lighting kit, a producer keeping the day on schedule.
  4. 04
Post-productionEdit, colour grade, sound design and mix, motion graphics, captions, deliverable resizing. The part of the pipeline most agencies under-scope and we over-deliver on.
  5. 05
Distribution and cut-downsPlatform-ready resizes (16:9, 9:16, 1:1), social cut-downs, paid-ready creative, captioning files, master archives. Everywhere the film needs to live.
  6. 06
Performance supportTracking what the film actually does, paid amplification if it earns it, A/B-tested cut variants, retargeting creative. Production without distribution is a vanity project.

Why Collingwood

A film studio in the middle of the trade.

Our studio is on Rokeby Street, Collingwood. Cinema kit, lighting kit, an edit suite, a podcast booth, and a producer who knows every freelance gaffer, grip, and sound recordist within ten minutes of the door. Locations, props, sign-makers, vehicle hires are all walking distance.

For video work this proximity is decisive. Most of our shoots are scoped, crewed, and shot inside two weeks because the trade is already in the postcode. Out-of-town agencies pay a premium for the same crew because they have to book ahead and bring them in. Our base in Collingwood is the reason our day rates stack up against bigger agencies twice our size.

How we start

From first call to first project, in three steps.

No long forms, no qualifying calls with someone who is not going to do the work. You speak directly with the team who will run your project.

  1. 01

    A 30-minute scoping call.

You tell us what you are trying to move (a launch, a brand refresh, a revenue target). We tell you whether we are the right agency for it. If we are not, we tell you who is.

  2. 02

    A fixed-fee proposal.

Inside a week you get a written scope with deliverables, timeline, and a fixed price. Nothing hourly, nothing surprise. If you want to swap something out, we re-scope before anyone signs anything.

  3. 03

    Kickoff and ship.

Project work usually starts inside two weeks. Retainers start at the top of the following month. Your project lead is in the studio on Rokeby Street and you can call them directly.

Good to know

Video production, the questions buyers actually ask.

How much does video production cost in Melbourne?

One-off social shoots typically start around $4,500 for a half-day in-studio shoot with a tight scope (3 to 6 short-form videos, founder talking-head plus product cuts). Mid-tier brand films sit at $9,000 to $20,000 (full day, professional talent, on-location, broadcast-clean audio, full post). Hero commercials and brand films with named talent, multi-location shoots, motion graphics, and full deliverable kits run $20,000 to $60,000+. We scope every project transparently against fixed deliverables, never hourly time and materials. The same scope brackets apply across our Melbourne, Gold Coast, and Brisbane shoots.

How long does a typical video project take?

Most projects run 2 to 6 weeks from first call to final cut, depending on scope. Brand films and documentary work sit at the longer end. Social shoots and short-form edits sit at the shorter end. The fastest brand video we have turned around is 7 days from brief to delivery. The longest brand film we have done ran 10 weeks. We work to your launch date, not the other way around, and we will tell you if the timeline is unrealistic before we accept the brief.

Do you write the script, or do we?

Either works. We can take a finished script and execute, we can lead concept development and scripting from scratch, or we can co-write off a brand position you already have. Most engagements sit in the middle. The single biggest driver of whether a film lands is the script, and we do not shoot until the script is locked.

How many rounds of revisions are included?

Two rounds of structural feedback after the first edit, then a polish pass on the locked cut. Structural feedback is for narrative changes, reordering, removing scenes. Polish is for colour, sound, captions, final feel. We front-load decisions in pre-production so revision cycles are about the finish, not redoing the foundation. Additional rounds beyond that are quoted at our standard hourly rate, but in practice fewer than 10% of our projects need a third structural round.

What formats do we get?

Whatever the brief needs. Master cut at 16:9 broadcast-ready, vertical 9:16 social cuts, square 1:1 feed cuts, captioned versions for autoplay-silent platforms, behind-the-scenes b-roll, social shorts cut from the main film. Audio stems and graded source files on request for in-house post teams. Every deliverable is archived for two years in a shared cloud workspace so you can pull the file whenever.

Do you shoot on-location or just in-studio?

Both. Studio days in our Collingwood space for product, founder talking-head, F&B, and controlled-lighting shoots. On-location for venues, sites, lifestyle, factories, regional shoots, and anywhere the brand actually lives. We have shot across Melbourne, regional Victoria, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, and remote sites in WA and the NT. The crew travels to the brand, not the other way round.

Can you do social cut-downs from a main brand film?

Yes, and they should be planned during pre-production, not bolted on at the end. If we know up front that the project needs vertical cuts, square cuts, and 15/30/60-second social variants, we shoot for those formats on the day. The film that wins on YouTube is rarely the same edit that wins on TikTok or in a Meta ad, and the only way to get both is to plan for both from the brief.

Do you film outside Melbourne?

Yes. About 40% of our shoots are interstate. We travel to the brand. Melbourne and Collingwood-based clients benefit from the proximity for ongoing content systems (faster scheduling, lower BTS cost) but project-based work runs anywhere in Australia. We have a Gold Coast crew for shoots up north and we travel to Sydney, Brisbane, and regional Victoria regularly.
